Leverage Speaking Engagements, Increase Visibility- 3 Tips

If you’re an industry expert and are booked for speaking engagements at upcoming industry events, why not leverage those activities and garner additional visibility and media exposure?  Catching up over lunch with a colleague – a respected lawyer and expert in his field – he noted that his calendar was dotted with upcoming speaking engagements at a variety of industry events.  Following are recommendations on how to use such opportunities to gain exposure both during and beyond the event to increase credibility and exposure for yourself, your company or brand.

Broadcast it on Facebook Live

You’ll need to check with the event organizers first to get permission, but broadcasting some or all of the event on a real-time social platform like Facebook Live is easy to execute, creates a sense of urgency for viewers and is exciting. All you need is a Wifi connection and a tablet computer propped up on a tripod. In advance of the program, let target audiences know and provide them with a link to the company Facebook page, as that’s where it will appear. It’s truly energizing to watch the comments roll in during the event. After its conclusion, it is automatically and conveniently archived and available for those who want to see it. Additionally, Facebook Live broadcasts can be edited later and developed into micro videos for use across social platforms including YouTube.

Blog About It

Mine your speaking engagement for relevant blog content. In fact, you’ll probably find that its great fodder for multiple posts given that a typical blog should come in at about 350 words for maximum readership. An outside transcription service makes this process extremely turnkey and highly affordable. Pitch It to the Media

If the presentation has real news value, then pitch it to the media for an upcoming story featuring you/your executive as the industry expert. Identify the media outlets, both regional and national, that have reported on the topic but not on the specifics included in your presentation. Bullet point the data that makes the presentation newsworthy and provide a reason why said publication would want to cover it. Is it because you’re providing new, deeper insight or research findings?
